While there is still more to do, the students have worked so hard! I am so proud of them!

Genius Hour First Day

Friday began the first day of a new round of Genius Hour! New kids, new year, and new grade level for me!

We began with this slideshow and a discussion on what Genius Hour is. The kids were so excited. I even tied this in later with our writer's notebook lesson on "making lists" - what about making an idea list for Genius Hour? The kids loved this.

They had so many questions and were so excited. Next week's day, topic choice, is always the hardest. It feels chaotic and sometimes frustrating, but it can also be so cool to see the creativity the kids have. One student already told me she spent her Labor Day weekend making healthy dog treats that people can also eat with her dad - she was inspired by the invention ideas in Genius Hour.

I can't wait to see the students' ideas come to life!

Presentation Day

Today was Genius Hour presentation day! Students had a blast sharing their hard work. The audience asked growth mindset questions, such as "What challenges did you face?" and "What inspired your passion project?"

I was so impressed by everyone's projects. I saw a lot of passion, creativity, and problem solving.

Progress!

As we get closer to the Genius Hour Fair submissions, we have been working very hard on our projects!

Elaine, Brynn, and Abby have raised over $50 for the Humane Society!

Sydney & Jessica have started their Youtube channel with their remixed videos. Check out their Youtube here:Remix Masters

Mikey, Matt, Drew, and Kenan have started exploring the design program "Epic Game Launcher" to create and code their video game.

Lily & Holly began cutting up and re-designing clothing for their up-cycling project.

Luis began learning to communicate greetings in sign language.
